We supported their channels, their programs and their stars of the shows. Now to just walk away from the old programing to the new Discovery Plus. Well we are disabled, we can not get internet where we live and are locked into contracts with Directv for the channels we had. Now they are filling the Discovery Channel up with crap so that way people will sign up for Discovery Plus. We its not going to happen.

I hope people have their Directv, Dish or Cabel Providers completely off. I am in the same situation that streaming does not work because router speed is so slow you cannot stream. I have had Direct TV since and it is not their fault, it is companies like Discovery who have gained viewers over the years and now want to cut out Direct TV and get all the money. Have watched many years already with cable. Much more work to view. Home Town and Chip and Joana are some of our favorites. We will not be paying an addition 60 dollars a year to view what we have been viewing on the over priced ATT U verse.

It seems impossibly awful to ask people, especially during a pandemic, to pay more. I have been watching all of the comments over the last month or so sometimes adding my own. It is pretty obvious that many of us have reached the end of the line with watching our favorite Discovery, Travel and Animal Planet new shows.

Some have questioned the legality of this. Many more people live in remote areas with no, or poor internet service and streaming is not going to work for them. Some cable services have data caps and streaming services chew right through that. Data limits can be increased in some cases, but at yet another charge on their cable bill. It is just not fair and I still have compassion for my fellow man.

I have relatives that live in remote areas with crappy internet services. Everybody out here commenting needs to write to Discovery Corporate and voice their opinions and complaints about what they have done.

Please use your business voice, not your emotional voice. They will read a well written message. They will immediately trash a bitchy or expletive laden email. Here is the link to Discovery Corporate. I have always considered that as a tool for political change, but if it works, it might be a choice. A lot of people see change. The web board is only a small percentage of people that have been affected by this. We need to spread the word and try and get as many people on the same page.

Agree with all above. Discovery can kiss my ass! There new streaming service is nothing more than a money grab! You want to offer an option to pay to have ads removed fine, but removing shows we are already paying for and then asking for us to pay again is nothing more than greed and I hope those involved rot in hell for it.

My mother is nearly 80 years old. Only channels she watches are on the Discovery network. What will be left on cable other than reruns and sports shows? Not much. What am I paying cable for? I may have to revisit this issue with Comcast. At any event it will be interesting to see how this experiment goes.

I feel that a decent percentage of Discovery viewers are older and not tech savvy, or are people on a budget stuck at home with little kids just look at who their advertisers are. The same kind of people who will most likely balk at this cumbersome, expensive and impractical arrangement. And now that Disney is apparently doing a deal with Comcast they will have even more stuff to watch if their parents subscribe to cable.

BTW-Thanks for offering a sane place to vent while I go through my withdrawal phase. With any luck some plucky company will pair with existing cable providers and fill in the programming gap that we are now left with. Never, never will i give in and pay Xtra. I learned it only takes a couple weeks to find a new interest. Try it!. I agree with Susan Fashaw. I am finding other shows on different channels. Have just about stopped watching anything on these Discovery channels since they are going for repeats mostly now.

What the hell is more premium about watching redneck hillbillies run around the woods at night with their headlamps on. Then I watched the Expedition Bigfoot with the lady from planet of the apes, another low class comedy not a premium movie channel style show.

This is the same old thing that went on in the old west days! The guy that owns the property up stream on a river that feeds the local community figures now he can control the water rights for the community to obtain water! Seems everybody has their hand out for money these days!

The public is looked at like a cash cow that they can just milk at will! Especially with everybody being tied to home during the Covid Pandemic. They can pack sand!!! Another process where money is more important to bin business than the public. It has already been said that we pay way too much for the cable programs offered. I am constantly checking with COX on lower packages since we are retired on a limited income. I for one hope Discovery Plus fails. What the hell happened to Discovery ID channel?

Nothing but repeats. Did they put all their new shows on this plus streaming? This sucks! I agree with you as I was going to say the exact same thing. I have been a avid watcher of this station since its launch. Now nothing but repeats and I have not been back for weeks now. I have switched over a few nights to Oxygen as they have a few good shows on through the week. I will not pay double for I. And now I cant see my favorite shows.

I already pay for dish why would I pay more. You really didnt answer my question. Can I still watch my shows at a later date or not. I pay a lot for just cable. Hopefully this costs then a lot of viewers and a lot of money, they will get what they deserve.

I have already started watching other channels. Oxygen, Lefetime, Reelz, and Own. I became very dependent for watching it seems. And they knew many were and did a cash grab for more.

I hope their freakin plus bombs. I hate what they did to all the channels we watched and shows that were included in the price we pay already.

I totally blows!! They are trying to pass off repeats of shows as NEW which is really low down. They must think we are all stupid to fall for that. I expect to see some new shows on these channels not old junk. If I want to watch repeats I will watch channels that show really old programs that came on many years ago.

Discovery and Travel channel have been doing that for a while. My wife and I watch Goldrush and the Josh Gates shows and they have been adding extra scenes, maybe 1 minute if that and pedaling them off as new. Yeah right. I have already found alternative shows still included with my provider I like just as much. Discovery should be ashamed of themselves when so many are suffering financially at the moment. Many have their phone service and internet lumped in with their cable in order to get discounts — I guess they never thought of that aspect.

Shame on you Discovery. I have noticed many shows I watch on Dish are now on Discovery Plus only. I live in a rural area where streaming services are not a option, it is quite upsetting to keep loosing favorite shows to Discovery Plus and I notice other new streaming programs also trying to come out. These companies clearly have not thought about not only the financial costs of customers who already pay for a service to recieve these services but what about those of us that live in rural areas who do not have the option of streaming services.

Thank you for checking into this. Looks like they are taking all those off my cable so no more new ones for me. Just out for themselves like all these big companies! Elizabeth and Nancy you both should email Discovery Corporate and explain to them that you live in areas where you cannot stream. They need to hear about this from as many as possible.

Here is the link to send a message. Also some of my TLC shows like Dr. I will do without my favorite shows and find new ones to watch on the cable channels I have. You should be ashamed of yourself! Donna I feel the same way. Hello- A few days ago I was looking at the billing statement I got from Spectrum. I asked what channels we will lose. Guess the first channel she said?? She told me that Discovery wants more money from them to continue to broadcast on Spectrum.

She also told me that a lot of people have been complaining about the reruns and taking the new episodes to Discovery Plus.

Anyone ever wondering if Discovery and the cable companies are doing this together on purpose? By adding the apps and thus the channels into their platforms, they can sell them to their customers.

Now you have to choose what your provider is and it redirects you to a provider specific website. The cable company will claim that Discovery is to blame and push it off on them in the meantime, they continue to make their money. Do you think the cable companies would negotiate a contract based on a set level of content and then let them remove it if it was going to cost them money?

Claiming we are still getting the same value from the channels because the existing episodes are still available shows how stupid they think we are. It would be one thing if they had it on both. Hey Answer Man-are you reading all these comments? Are you working for them? We obviously know much more than you do. You need to change your name to the Non-Answer Man-I am truly ashamed for you….

Hey everyone, just one more comment and I will go away. We did this all once before with no problem and I know we can do it again. Anyone out there willing to try? I know I am. And I assure you, kids these days are not concerned with this at all because none of them are paying for cable TV, nor do they ever plan to.

And of the adults I know 20s — 30s none are paying for it either. Why would I pay hundreds of dollars a month to watch ads? Good riddance. Bait and switch. I thought this show looked familiar! It totally pisses me off that they did this. No new ID channel shows and lots of other new shows gone from their other channels. How can they do this? We pay for their network on cable and then they want more for the same shows? Like hey if you want to see new shows you have to get this extra add on stream thing.

We bs to that you crooks! No lady, you were getting these shows in your cable plan, but now you have to pay more to get them! Not happy! When you people at Discovery screw up, you do a good job at it, everybody hates you and your app. I hope your app goes belly up, which it probably will, the sooner the better. There is nothing good on the Discovery network anymore, mostly just old stuff.

Kind of hope they do. It really stinks what they did taking all the new shows off and wanting extra money for them. Discovery Network used to be my favorite channels until they pulled this stunt.

Well GoodBye to you! Is there a lawyer out there who thinks we have a case, and would like to represent the cable subscribers who would love to sue the Discovery channel and other networks that have gone to streaming service to get the programming you paid for?

Jim, I would definitely sign up!!!! Is there a way to start a class action or something by ourselves?? If they wanted to have an app with different shows on it than the ones already on cable and dish than fine and dandy. If people want to add this app with other shows on it than I could see that. But taking our shows off cable and dish and leaving us with just old shows is bogus.

Good luck, but your beef would be with your cable company who you pay for TV service, not Discovery. Really sucks. Not going to pay even 4. Well, this has certainly been an entertaining read! How much of your subscription money do you think gets passed on to Discovery after Comcast etc. Probably not much. If you have the tech skills and internet connection to allow you to give cable the boot, I highly recommend it — plus, no more ads!

SO interesting to see the other side here. With ridiculous fees like that and ads! Where is that money going? How much of your subscription fee do you really think Comcast or whoever is passing along to Discovery after they take their cut? They must know their content is valuable — after all, look how enraged people in this thread are at the possibility of losing access to it. If you have the tech skills and internet speeds to allow you to cut cable, I highly recommend it.

I grew up with it at home but have yet to miss it after over a decade without it. Keep in mind that many of us, myself included came from a time when all we had was an antenna with local channels only. Then came cable and that opened up a whole new world and was reasonably priced at the time.

So now we live in a world of expensive cable for some channels, streaming for others and needing good internet to make it work. Cable tv has shot themselves in the foot by having 2 year contracts that for one channel you want and having to buy a whole package just for one, or two channels. Cable tv will is dying, unless they allow people to buy just the channels they want and allow you to add, or subtract them monthly and add streaming services to their lineup, they will price themselves out of business and be gone in just a few years.

The transition from cable to streaming is a tough and expensive process for those of us that can do it. Right now Discovery, travel and Animal Planet are the most popular channels around right now.

To tear away all those shows and put them on a streaming service leaving us with no choice without warning is unacceptable. This whole thing could have been handled better by Discovery. It left a bad taste in the mouths of faithful viewers that made these shows as popular as they are. The cable company pays Discovery to show its channel on cable. It would seem to me they are financially obligated to keep showing shows on cable. If we pay for it we should be able to watch it.

We have been scammed and have every right to be upset. How dare you say its okay for them to do it. You miss the point that there are millions of people who live in rural areas that do not have fiber that gives you enough broadband speed to be able to stream without it taking two hours to watch a one hour show. Try watching the spinning circle for minutes at a time and you will give up on streaming.

It also is not the fault of satellite companies who have enabled people in rural areas to have access to more than three local channels yes, a lot of people are in that situation. You seem to think that knowledge of the internet overcomes the inability to have a router that booms 3. We live in a rural area what some call out in the sticks. Ok, here is the deal for Comcast subscribers. I sent a message to Comcast two days ago about this rerun business not expecting much of a reply, or at best thinking I would get some utterly generic wording back.

The message did not state whether the app would be free, like Peacock is now, or whether we will have to pay extra, as some people do for Netflix and HBO I suspect the latter. In any event this presents a huge inconvenience for many viewers as only the top-of-the-line cable boxes which cost more monthly can access any of these apps.

So people with multiple tvs in their home kitchen, den, bedroom, etc. Not the best news, but I hope this information helps a little.

They moved most of their new shows to the streaming to try to get people to pay extra. They bomb bard you with their sign up commercials constantly if you do tune in to the repeats. On top of that, the newly created programs are hiring celebrities as hosts etc. I tune into the network to see professionals in the field of design accomplish great looking projects, not celebrities and scripted drama. I pay around There is no schedule of when we will see the new season or seasons.

Discovery network expects everyone will jump on board! I would rather not watch their monopoly than bow down and pat any extra! Discovery respects Their pre-existing customer base. Do not let them fool you we do not matter to the money-hungry executives!

I think this would be a good class-action lawsuit. Please if you know the process or know a lawyer, contact them about this. Maybe they will lose enough advertisers that they will come back to pay services tv.

Travel Channel has gone the whole years without new programming. This is important because Travel Channel has some of the biggest carriage numbers and it has been around for decades, so I would not expect it to join the half dozen or so zombie channels run by Discovery like Destination America or DIY. They must be aware that the chances of viewers coming back after changing their habits is non-existent, so they must be putting the channel into the grave.

I see no need to pay for their carriage, and I will discuss this with comcast soon. They would only release them so slowly because they know they are not going to be making new episodes. I will save my free trial for or whenever they finish running all the ones in the can.

I used to watch Discovery ID channel every night when they had new shows back to back from 9 to They use these commercials showing people who are stupid enough to pay for it going on, and on how wonderful it is, and how happy, and excited they are to have it.

They can take their Discovery Plus Channel and you know what they can do with it!!! You have to hit these companies in their pocketbooks!!! They are definitely pulling some serious BS here. I was excited to see two new episodes of Expedition Bigfoot show up on my DVR, but wondered, where are the rest?

They only get the same two episodes. The rest? Nope, you have to pay for a streaming service. They will lose a lot of viewership with this extortion. Not playing that game. Not caving in. Not buying. A la carte streaming is NOT affordable for people. I know everyone feels the same as I do.

There are also YouTube ghost programmes, usually from the UK. Nowhere more haunted than there! So I will wait and hope for the best. I think that we paid enough for our cable as it is.. So I we will watch the reruned of him. We paid enough as it is now. I sent yet another comment to Discovery. Still others like me refuse to pay even more money to watch something that we already pay for with cable and satellite.

Others are living on a tight budget because of fixed income, or job loss from covid. If you live in Canada, you have been left out in the cold. Basically cast adrift. Did you consider any of this when this whole debacle was planned?? Other streaming services play new shows and then play them on cable a week later.

Everybody wins, everybody is happy. Did you consider this?? You should in the meantime return these shows to cable and run them on both services.

People then have a choice. Sure that might cost you more, but the cost to you in lost viewership will cost you a whole lot more. It has already happened and will continue to happen unless you act fast.
