Unloopers work on some, other don't. The other option was to hook up a booted card to any old PC with 2 serial ports. Didn't even need a hard drive. All you had to do was boot a DOS bootdisk with access card emulation software which generally you had to know somebody to get. Then use the 2nd serial port to hook into the access card slot in your reciever. The computer emulated all access card responses, and validated you to be able to watch anything you wanted just switch to any PPV channel, for example, and it would be playing.
The actual card was still needed though, to decrypt the video stream, as that wasn't easy to program for the computer. So the access card became a slave device, used only for video decryption. This way, if DirecTV shot it down, instead of getting your hands on a new access card, all you had to do was reboot the computer. Some of that may still apply today, but you'd probably have to use an older access card, and find the right equipment.
He gets not only all the regular channels, but all the pay per channels, all the pornography channels, and every last movie channel for free.
